Lostmarc'h is a wild, exposed beach just north of La Palue, under the Lostmarc'h headland, facing west and open to swells from south-west to north-west. It is consistent, with fast, demanding waves that can barrel from mid to low tide and turn soft near high tide, and peaks that move with the sandbanks. Strong rips (baïnes) form in the middle of the beach, shift every year and never really stop, so it suits fit, confident surfers more than learners.

Local tips
Check the size from the water's edge before you commit: the waves look smaller from the cliff than they are. Avoid the north end, where a strong current along the cliff, called the 'ascenseur' (lift) locally, pulls surfers out to sea. Rocks show in the middle of the beach at low tide. If a rip takes you, paddle parallel to the shore rather than against it.
Getting there
Take the same road as for La Palue, towards the Cap de la Chèvre, and park near the wastewater treatment plant. The walk to the beach takes about 15–20 minutes.
History
The Lostmarc'h headland has an Iron Age fort with double earth banks across the point, listed as a historic monument since 1980.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Works often from autumn to spring. It faces the open Atlantic and picks up most west swells from about 1 m. Summer is often flat.
- Crowd and vibe
- Usually quiet: empty on weekdays, a few surfers at weekends, even with good waves. The mood is mostly relaxed. Some guides mention locals who guard the spot, so come in small numbers and respect the regulars.
- Camping and vans
- The nearest campsite is Camping de la Plage de Goulien, about 3.5 km north. Vans can't stay overnight at the Goulien beach car park: it is daytime only, and fines are reported. Camping is banned all along this protected coast. Nearest campsite about 3.5 km away.
- Facilities
- There is only a car park beside the treatment works. No toilets, cafés or lifeguards, so bring what you need from Crozon or Morgat.
- Water quality
- Lostmarc'h is not an official bathing site, so it has no state rating. Wannasurf users list pollution as a hazard, and the car park is next to a wastewater treatment plant.
