Damgan's Grande Plage is a long, gently shelving south-facing beach of four to five kilometres on the coast east of the Gulf of Morbihan, close to the mouth of the Vilaine. It is a family and watersports beach rather than a surf spot: Belle-Île, the smaller islands and the Quiberon peninsula shelter it from most Atlantic swell. When a swell does get in, waves break on the sandbank offshore and in a small shorebreak, which windsurfers and kiters use with a strong westerly. Surf information is very scarce, and it only suits small-wave learning on the occasional day.

Local tips
The water stays shallow for the first hundred metres or so, which makes it a safe place to splash around on a foamie when there are small waves. On windy days give windsurfers and kiters space. If you are driving down for surf, check the Quiberon area first, where there is far more swell.
Getting there
The beach runs along the Boulevard de l'Océan next to Damgan town centre, with parking, toilets, food outlets and lifeguards in summer; access for reduced mobility is provided.
