Ofir is the beach on the south side of the Cávado river mouth, below the tall towers of the old Hotel Ofir. Sandbars form around the river jetty and the rocks. Rights break close to the jetty next to the hotel, and lefts break a little further along or on the other side of the jetty. Wannasurf rates it a regional classic for experienced surfers.

Travel notes

How often it works
Surf-forecast calls it quite reliable, mostly from north-west groundswell, and able to work all year. Wannasurf says it can hold big swells.
Crowd and vibe
Few surfers in the week and crowded at weekends. The local crew asks for respect, and wannasurf reports localism.
Camping and vans
Parque de Campismo de Fão, a few hundred metres from the beach between Fão and Ofir, is about 1 km away. Portuguese road law bans motorhome overnight stays outside authorised places in protected areas, Natura 2000 sites and zones covered by the coastal plans, and limits other overnight stops to 48 hours per municipality. Nearest campsite about 1 km away.
Facilities
Lifeguards in season, a first-aid post, toilets, showers and a beach bar. The beach is accessible.
Water quality
Rated excellent in APA's latest annual classification; Blue Flag beach in 2026.
