Local tips

Check the northern corner by the rocks first. It has some shelter from north winds. Hellestø is one of the few Jæren beaches where kiting is allowed, so expect kites on windy days. Water is about 5–7 °C in late winter and up to about 16–18 °C in late summer: a 5/4 with boots, gloves and a hood from autumn to spring.

Getting there

Signposted car park behind the dunes off the Jæren coast road; follow the marked paths over the dunes.

Travel notes

How often it works
Jæren is Norway's most consistent surf coast: open to the North Sea from south-west to north-west, it gets waves most weeks from September to April, from both wind swell and longer North Atlantic swell. Summer is smaller and often flat. The tide range is small.
Crowd and vibe
A few surfers in the week, busier on good weekends.
Camping and vans
Ølberg Camping is about 3 km north; Bore Strandcamping is about 4.5 km south. Nearest campsite about 3 km away.
Facilities
Car park; little else at the beach. Shops are in Sola.
Water quality
No bathing-water results were found: Norway is not in the European Environment Agency bathing-water data, and no local results for this beach turned up.
