Local tips

Øyrvika at Kvassheim lighthouse is a bird-protected area: the county governor bans surfing there from 1 November to 31 March (some tourism pages say from 1 October), and you must not disturb birds at any time. Water is about 5–7 °C in late winter and up to about 16–18 °C in late summer: a 5/4 with boots, gloves and a hood from autumn to spring.

Getting there

Walk down to the shore at Øyrvika from Kvassheim lighthouse (Kvassheim fyr) on the coast road.

Travel notes

How often it works
Jæren is Norway's most consistent surf coast: open to the North Sea from south-west to north-west, it gets waves most weeks from September to April, from both wind swell and longer North Atlantic swell. Summer is smaller and often flat. The tide range is small.
Crowd and vibe
Empty in the week, a few surfers at weekends.
Camping and vans
Brusand Camping is about 4 km south-east. Nearest campsite about 4 km away.
Facilities
Nothing at the break; the nearest shop is in Brusand, about 4 km away.
Water quality
No bathing-water results were found: Norway is not in the European Environment Agency bathing-water data, and no local results for this beach turned up.
