La Lagune is a long, sandy beach on the Arcachon–Biscarrosse road a couple of kilometres south of Petit Nice, close to the basin mouth and the Banc d'Arguin. The banks off the pass soak up much of the swell, so it is usually weak and only works a few times a year, mostly in winter. On a large swell, though, it comes into its own and can hold real size while the open beaches further north and south are closing out. Away from those days it is generally a mediocre beach break, and the lineup is usually empty.

Local tips
Save it for the days when a big swell is closing out La Salie and the Cap Ferret beaches. The shape changes as the dunes and banks move, so have a look before suiting up. Outside the guarded zone in summer the currents can carry you out, so stay aware of where the channels are.
Getting there
The beach is signposted on the right of the D218 Arcachon–Biscarrosse road, with a large free car park a short walk from the sand. In summer there is a lifeguard post, showers, toilets and a beach restaurant; vehicles over 1.90 m are barred from the car park.
