La Salie Nord is the northern access to La Salie, a wild beach under the high dunes of the Landes de Gascogne a few kilometres south of the Dune du Pilat. The sandbars, fed by the banks of the Arcachon passes, can produce hollow, fast and powerful lefts and rights, with rides of 50–150 m and more on a good day. The north side is the gentler end of La Salie and suits smaller days, with a guarded zone and surf clubs and schools working here in summer. The banks shift quickly, though, and in recent years surfers have reported the north sandbar disappearing, leaving mostly shorebreak.

Local tips
If you are new here, go with one of the local clubs or schools, who know which part of the beach is working that day. When the north bar is poor, the better banks are usually near the wharf to the south, a long walk along the sand. Rips and undertow are strong, so check the channels before paddling out, and keep sessions short when the wharf outfall is discoloured.
Getting there
Take the D218 from Arcachon or La Teste towards Biscarrosse-Plage and follow the sign for Plage de La Salie to the car park, then walk through the dunes and across the sand. A guarded swimming zone runs in July and August, there is a seasonal beach restaurant and picnic tables, but bring your own water and food otherwise.
