Petit Nice is the first ocean beach south of the Dune du Pilat, below the forested dune on the road from Pyla to Biscarrosse. It is a sandy beach break with short lefts and rights, and it sits close enough to the Arcachon basin mouth that the offshore banks take some energy out of the swell. It usually needs around 1–1.5 m of swell to get going and holds up to about 2 m. With a guarded zone, restaurants and an accessible ramp, it is a family and beginner beach in summer rather than a destination for experienced surfers. Little detailed surf writing exists for it.

Local tips
Stay inside the guarded area if you are learning, as currents are strong in places outside it. Weekends in summer get very busy, so come early or late in the day. Erosion has been severe here and the dune edge can be unstable; check on arrival whether the beach access is open.
Getting there
From Pyla follow the Route de Biscarrosse (D218) south past the Dune du Pilat to the Petit Nice car park, then walk down a gently sloping wooden ramp to the beach, which is labelled for visitors with reduced mobility; bars and restaurants are nearby. Severe erosion, with the shoreline retreating several metres in days and leaving sand cliffs, led the town to close the beach and ramp by municipal order until the end of April 2026, so check that access is open before you go.
