La Pointe is the southernmost surfable beach of Cap Ferret, at the bend of the peninsula where it turns to face the Arcachon basin mouth and the Dune du Pilat. Its sandbars are reshaped constantly by the tidal flow between the bay and the ocean, so it is very dependent on banks and breaks only on a few days a year. When it works it gives short, fast and hollow waves, and it can act as a backup when the open beaches are closing out on a big swell. Strong rips, the channel current and little shelter from the wind make it a spot for experienced surfers only.

Local tips
Surf it only on the incoming tide and never if you are unsure of your paddling: the outgoing tide can drag you away from the beach and towards the channel. Watch for submerged jetties, channel buoys and oyster-farm debris around the point, and for boat traffic in the pass. Bodyboarders like it when it is hollow, and it gets busy in the French summer holidays even though the surf is usually small then.
Getting there
Drive to the end of the Cap Ferret road and walk a few minutes to the beach at the tip. The area around the point has nature-protection restrictions, so stay on the marked paths.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Wannasurf says it rarely breaks, only about five days a year. It needs a very big swell that closes out the other spots.

- It is usually empty, with a few surfers at weekends. It gets busier in the summer holidays, even though the waves are small then.
- Camping and vans
- Camping Sandaya Le Truc Vert is about 10 km north by road. The Pyla campsites look closer but are across the bay. Nearest campsite about 10 km away.
