Merón is the main beach of San Vicente de la Barquera: over 2.5 km of sand with the Picos de Europa behind. It is open to north-west and west swells and has peaks all along, so there is usually room. El Farolillo has a long, easy right. At the western end, a sandbar by the river mouth gives a fast, hollow left. There are plenty of surf schools.

Local tips
With so many peaks, walk until you find one you like rather than joining the first crowd. The river-mouth left on the San Vicente side is the best wave on its day, but watch the current there. When Merón is too big, Oyambre is five minutes east.
Getting there
The beach runs east from San Vicente de la Barquera, with parking, campsites and every service right behind it.
Travel notes

- Consistent. It is open to west and north-west swells, so there is usually something to ride.

- Camping El Rosal has direct access to the western end of the beach, about 1.5 km from mid-beach. It reopens at Easter 2027. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
- Facilities
- Lifeguards in summer, a large car park and all the basic beach services, with many surf schools and the full range of shops and cafés in San Vicente.
