Oyambre is almost two kilometres of beach inside the Oyambre natural park, backed by dunes, marshes and cliffs. It faces north-east, so the swell is smaller than at Merón, which makes it the place to go when San Vicente is out of control. El Pájaro Amarillo, at the western end, has a long, easy left. El Golf, in the middle, has shifting peaks. The waves are fun rather than powerful and suit all levels.

When it works

✓ A 1–2 m north-west or west swell on the low, rising tide with a south to south-west wind; the west end handles south-west.

When it doesn't

✕ Small swells don't reach it, and north or north-east wind blows in.

Watch out for

  • rips

Best months

January, February, March, April, September, October, November, December

Local tips

Use it as a back-up when Merón is too big or messy. The western part handles south-west wind. Outside summer it is often almost empty.

Getting there

Oyambre is on the coast road between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera, with parking a short walk from the sand.

Travel notes

How often it works
Gets less swell than Merón because it faces more to the north and is more sheltered. That makes it a good backup when the open beaches are too big, but small swells barely reach it.
Crowd and vibe
Uncrowded most of the year. Visitors report surfing it alone in spring. Summer brings more people, but the long beach spreads them out.
Camping and vans
Camping Oyambre Beach sits right behind the beach (open Easter to early November). Camping Rodero and Caravaning Oyambre are about 1 km away at Los Llaos. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
Facilities
Lifeguards in summer and parking a short walk from the sand; few other services inside the natural park, with the most choice in Comillas and San Vicente.
Water quality
Not on the 2026 Bandera Azul list, and we could not check its official water rating.
