Oriñón is a kilometre of sand inside the mouth of the Agüera river. It faces into the estuary, not the open sea. Only big swells wrap in, giving shifting peaks over sand and a good left at the far end of the beach. Its shelter makes it a fallback on stormy days with west wind, and it is rarely crowded.

Local tips
Walk to the end of the beach for the left, which is the reason to come. It is sheltered from west wind, so check it when other spots are blown out. Watch the river current near the channel, especially on a falling tide.
Getting there
Oriñón is just off the A-8 between Castro Urdiales and Laredo. There is parking by the beach in the village.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Fickle. It sits inside the Agüera estuary, so it needs a strong west or north-west swell and is usually calm in summer. On big storm days it is a useful hiding place when the open beaches are out of control.
- Crowd and vibe
- Few surfers and a quiet village feel. Bathers pack the beach in summer, but there are rarely waves then anyway.
- Camping and vans
- Camping de Oriñón opens straight onto the beach, with prices listed for June to September. Camping Playa Arenillas at Islares is about a kilometre east. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
- Facilities
- Showers, a marked surf zone and beachside parking, with the campsite and a restaurant in the village.
- Water quality
- Bandera Azul beach in 2026, so the water tested excellent the season before. Expect river water from the Agüera at the far end.
