La Parée Préneau is a wide, dune-backed beach on the edge of the Pays de Monts forest, between Saint-Jean-de-Monts and Sion. Just right of the lifeguard tower a row of small jetties helps hold sandbars that give short, fun rights and lefts, usually under fifty metres. The bottom is mostly sand with some submerged rocks, and the waves are mellow enough for beginners while still giving improvers something to work with. Crowds are usually light.

Local tips
Surf the bars by the jetties to the right of the lifeguard tower, and aim for the rising mid tide, which most guides agree gives the best shape. Watch for rocks near the jetties as the water drops and for currents running along them. In July and August the lifeguards mark out a bathing zone, so keep clear of it.
Getting there
Take the D123 between Sion and Saint-Jean-de-Monts and turn off at the 'Plage de la Parée Préneau' sign, about two kilometres north of Sion; a large free car park and a camper-van area sit directly behind the dunes, a few minutes' walk from the sand.
