L'Horizon is the ocean beach of Cap Ferret village, also known as Petit Train after the little tourist train that runs to it from the Bélisaire jetty on the bay side. Sandbars give several A-frame peaks, small and fun on small swells and powerful and fast at low tide when the swell is up, sometimes closing out but still producing good waves. Its spread of peaks means you can usually find one that is not crowded. With a lifeguard post, a surf school and food stalls behind the dune, it is the social centre of Cap Ferret surfing and suits a wide range of levels in summer.

Local tips

Watch out for the remains of old wartime bunkers in the water. A strong current runs along the beach, especially at low tide, so keep checking your position. The local crew is small and friendly but does not like being snaked. For a quieter session walk a few minutes south to Les Dunes, where the banks can be excellent but the beach is unguarded and rippy.

Getting there

The beach is in Cap Ferret village at the end of the Avenue de l'Océan: cross the dune from the village, or in summer take the little train from the Bélisaire jetty. Boardwalks, a summer lifeguard post, food stalls and a surf school are at the access.

Travel notes

How often it works
Wannasurf counts about 150 surfable days a year. The sandbanks move a lot, so the best peak changes often.
Crowd and vibe
It is crowded at weekends and in summer. The local crew is small and friendly but does not like people stealing waves.
Camping and vans
Camping Sandaya Le Truc Vert is about 6.5 km north. The Pyla campsites across the bay look closer on a map but are far by road. Nearest campsite about 6.5 km away.
Facilities
There are boardwalks, a summer lifeguard post, food stalls and a surf school at the access. In summer a little train runs from the Bélisaire jetty.
Water quality
The Cap-Ferret Océan monitoring point was rated good every season from 2022 to 2025, and all five 2026 samples were good.
