Pors-ar-Vag is a quiet beach at Lestrevet on the eastern shore of the Douarnenez bay, facing west across the bay, with short lefts and rights over sand mixed with rock. The tip of the Crozon peninsula blocks most swell, so it needs a big swell to push this far in, and the waves are often choppy, soft and fairly short. That makes it a friendly spot for learners and an escape when the busier spots of the bay are packed or too big.

Local tips

Check it only when the open coast is big and messy; on an average day there is nothing here. Strong north or south winds can push some swell in, but it arrives choppy and weak. Watch for the rocks mixed into the sand when choosing a peak, and expect an empty or nearly empty line-up.

Getting there

Reach it by car along the small lanes down to Lestrevet; the way is fiddly the first time, and the beach is a short walk from where you park. A surf school from Plonévez-Porzay uses this beach among others in the bay.

Travel notes
