L'Aber is a long, south-facing beach of fine sand on the Douarnenez-bay side of the peninsula, by the Île de l'Aber. The Cap de la Chèvre shelters it from most swell, so it only breaks on big westerlies, but it is also sheltered from north and east winds, which makes it a good option out of season. Low tide gives hollower waves and higher tides cleaner lines. It is part of a protected natural site and is shared with kitesurfers.

Local tips

When the wind is above about 15 knots, kitesurfers and windsurfers use the beach, so surf upwind of their zone. Stay on the marked dune paths: the dunes shelter a lagoon that matters for birds. You can walk to the island at low tide, but watch the incoming tide if you go.

Getting there

Easy access from the Tal ar Groas roundabout on the Crozon road, with a large car park that is handy for changing.

Travel notes

How often it works
Rarely works. The Cap de la Chèvre blocks most swell, so it needs a big westerly swell that bends into Douarnenez Bay. It is usually flat in summer.
Crowd and vibe
Rarely crowded, even when the waves are good. On windy days kitesurfers and windsurfers use the beach, so keep clear of their area.
Camping and vans
Camping de l'Aber, on the route de l'Aber, is about 1.5 km away. It is open roughly April to mid-October, with pitches for tents and vans. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
Facilities
A large car park, but no lifeguards or cafés on the beach. Camping de l'Aber nearby has a bar and restaurant, and shops are in Crozon.
Water quality
The Aber beach is an official bathing site, rated excellent for 2025.
