Praia América is an urban beach of over 1 km of fine white sand in Nigrán, in the bay of Baiona between Monteferro and Panxón; it runs on into Panxón beach. It sits behind the Monteferro headland and the Estelas islets, so it needs a big autumn or winter swell to break, and summer is usually quiet. When it works, many peaks give mellow, medium-sized waves over gently sloping sand, which suit beginners and intermediates. It rarely gets crowded.

Travel notes
- How often it works
- Very sheltered, deep in the bay behind Monteferro and the Cíes Islands. It only breaks on big autumn and winter swells and is flat most of the year.
- Crowd and vibe
- Usually quiet, since there are so few surfable days. On big days some surfers move here from Patos, but the several peaks spread people out. In summer the sand fills with bathers, not surfers.
- Camping and vans
- Camping Praia América, on Rúa Canido in Nigrán, is the closest campsite and is open about March to September. Camping Bayona Playa, on A Ladeira beach, is a little further south. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
- Facilities
- Showers, a promenade with restaurants and tapas bars, and sports courts at the Panxón end.
- Water quality
- The town says Praia América has held a Blue Flag since 1990, but it is not on the 2026 Bandera Azul list, and we found no official water rating to check.
