A right-hander that breaks off a jetty on the main beach of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, deep inside the Gironde estuary, known locally as La Bouillasse. It needs a very large Atlantic swell to reach this far in, and then only works around high tide, so it breaks only a few times a year. When it does, the wave can be surprisingly powerful and hollow over sand and rock, with the brown estuary water giving the barrels an unusual look. It is rarely surfed, and a session here is usually an uncrowded one.

Local tips
Only check it when the open coast is maxed out by a big west or north-west swell and the tide is high. The jetty, marked by a yellow post, sits about a third of the way along the beach from the eastern end and is hard to spot at high tide. With so few surfers, it is often a solo session, so stay well clear of the rocks of the jetty.
Getting there
Head for the main beach of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, in town, and walk along the sand to the jetty; it is a walk of under five minutes from the seafront.
