Saint-Valery-en-Caux has a beach of fairly large pebbles between the harbour jetty and the Falaise d'Amont, in front of the casino, cut into sections by groynes. It is a Caux shingle break that needs a solid swell from the north-west or north; the jetty and the cliffs shape short, steep peaks at mid tide, and a straight swell makes the waves break all at once. Little is known about the wave and few surfers come here, so check the cam before driving.

Local tips

The groynes split the beach into sections, so pick a peak away from them and keep clear of the harbour entrance and its boats. The big pebbles make getting in and out awkward in any shorebreak; boots help. Veules-les-Roses, a few kilometres east, is the nearest better-known alternative.

Getting there

The biggest car park is at the casino at the eastern end, with a second one on the seafront by the harbour. The eastern end near the Amont cliff has lifeguards in summer.

Travel notes

How often it works
Fickle. This north-facing pebble beach is partly sheltered from west swells. It needs a solid north-west to north swell, mostly from winter storms, so it is flat most of the year.
Crowd and vibe
Barely surfed and hardly written about as a wave, so you will usually have the water to yourself. In summer the crowds are swimmers at the lifeguarded eastern end.
Camping and vans
The Plage Ouest motorhome aire, at the west end by the harbour, has about 40 places from around €9 a night. It has a two-night limit and no electricity. Camping Etennemare (Seasonova), with an indoor pool, is on the edge of town about 2 km from the beach. Nearest campsite about 2 km away.
Facilities
Lifeguards at the eastern end in summer, with the casino, harbour and town restaurants close by. No surf school or surf shop was found.
Water quality
ARS Normandie rated the beach excellent for 2025, and the marina held a Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag) in 2025. The harbour entrance is right next to the beach, so keep away from the channel.
