Veules-les-Roses has a short shingle beach of about 300 m below the village and the cliffs, with a wide stretch of sand and some rock at low tide. It is a beach break of short lefts and rights that works on all tides. Currents are mild and big swells are rare, so it is a good place to learn and improve. On a real winter swell it can turn clean, well-shaped and powerful, and then it is no longer a beginners' wave.

Local tips

It works through the tide, but the low-tide sandbanks give the softest, easiest waves for learners. The line-up is usually empty, and the few regulars ask visitors to keep a low profile. Opinions differ on quality: some surfers rate nearby Pourville well above it.

Getting there

There is free parking at the end of the Route de la Corniche, signposted from the village, plus paid parking. The beach has toilets, showers and a lifeguarded zone in season.

Travel notes

How often it works
Fickle. Surf-forecast says that even in February, its best month, it is clean and surfable only about a fifth of the time and too small over a third of the time. Summer is mostly flat, and it needs a west to north-west swell of a metre or more.
Crowd and vibe
Usually empty, on weekdays and weekends alike, and surf-forecast says it is unlikely to be crowded even when it works. The few regulars ask visitors to be respectful and discreet.
Camping and vans
Camping Les Mouettes on Avenue Jean Moulin is a few hundred metres from the beach and village. It has a covered heated pool and a motorhome area, and was open 3 April to 26 September in 2026. Camping Les Moutons at Blosseville is about 2 km inland. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
Facilities
Toilets, showers and a lifeguarded zone in season, with the village's shops and restaurants a short walk away. No surf school or surf shop was found.
Water quality
ARS Normandie rated Veules beach only sufficient for 2025, the lowest on this coast. Avoid surfing after heavy rain, when the little Veules river and run-off reach the beach.
