A small cove called Sandvika, just south of the Alnes lighthouse at the outer tip of Godøy island, near Ålesund. The main wave is a right over boulders, with a left at the south end and some sandier sections in the middle. It is not an everyday wave, but when the swell comes in at the right angle it can be very good.

Local tips
It is fickle: surf guides say it only really works a few times a year, so check the swell angle before you drive out. The bottom is boulders, so take care getting in and out. Water is cold: a 5/4 with boots, gloves and a hood from autumn to spring.
Getting there
Godøy is about 27 km from Ålesund (20–30 minutes by car) through the undersea tunnels of the Vigra link; you cannot walk or cycle through them. The village road is very narrow, so park at the start of the village or at the free car park by the lighthouse and walk. Bus 32 runs from Ålesund about once a weekday.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Open to the Norwegian Sea from west-south-west to north-west, but the cove needs a solid swell from the right angle, so it breaks only on some winter days. Winter is the most likely time.
- Crowd and vibe
- Usually empty or just a few local surfers; it is a short session spot for people from Ålesund.
- Camping and vans
- No campsite was found on Godøy; the nearest are around Ålesund. Norway's right to roam lets you pitch a tent at least 150 m from houses, but the village is small and tightly built, so ask before staying near it.
- Facilities
- Alnes Fyr og Opplevelsessenter at the lighthouse has a café with home-made cakes, a gallery, a gift shop and tower tours; nothing else at the cove.
- Water quality
- No bathing-water results were found: Norway is not in the European Environment Agency bathing-water data, and no local results for this beach turned up.
Ideal conditions
- Swell
- WNW–NNW best, WSW–N works
- Size
- 1.8–3 m offshore swell; starts at 1.2 m, holds to 4 m
- Period
- 9 s minimum, best from 12 s
- Wind
- Offshore ENE–SSE; handles onshore up to 15 km/h
- Tide
- low, mid, high best, on the rising tide
