Le Kérou is a fine-sand cove at Le Pouldu, between Doëlan and the mouth of the Laïta, with cliffs over its western end and a surf school. It is the main surf beach between Concarneau and Lorient: an exposed beach break whose easy lefts and rights work at all tides on a decent west to south-west swell. Rides are usually short but can run a long way on a good day, and a solid swell makes the waves powerful, for experienced surfers.

Local tips
The best waves tend to break on the right-hand side of the beach near the rocks, which is also where you need the most care. Locals point to mid-September to October for the best barrels, with April and May next. Always wear a leash and know your limits: a bodyboarder without one once drowned here after getting exhausted. In summer the line-up can fill with bodyboarders.
Getting there
The beach is signposted from Le Pouldu, and the sand is only a few minutes' walk from the road.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Fairly reliable for this south coast. It faces south-west, catches both west and south-west swells, and works at any tide. Summer is often flat; spring and autumn have the most clean days.
- Crowd and vibe
- Usually only a few surfers, and no reported trouble with locals. In July and August it gets busy with bodyboarders, beginners and the surf school. Stay out of the flagged swimming zone and give the lessons space.
- Camping and vans
- Camping Sandaya Le Kérou is right above the beach, about 300 m from the sand. Camping du Pouldu, in Le Pouldu village, is a smaller option. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
- Facilities
- There are toilets, showers, parking, a restaurant and bar, and the École de Surf de Bretagne Kloar on the beach. Lifeguards are on duty from 1 July to 31 August, 1 to 7 pm.
- Water quality
- The ARS rated the water excellent (listed as Kerrou) every year from 2022 to 2025, and the beach has a Blue Flag (Pavillon Bleu). The mouth of the Laïta river is a short way east at Le Pouldu.
