Off the Pointe du Courégant a big peak breaks over an outer reef, but only when a large west to south-west swell arrives with offshore wind. At low tide it produces long walls from a wide bowl that do not close out, and it is often described as a mellower, longer-riding alternative to Les Kaolins. The catch is a paddle of around 20 minutes and how rarely the conditions come together. It is seldom crowded.

Local tips
Budget time and energy for the long paddle out and back, and keep an eye on the drift while you sit on the outer peak. Go on the lower tides; this is a spot for days when the beaches are too big.
Getting there
Park at the small Courégant cove in the hamlet of the same name (toilets and showers by the beach) and paddle out towards the point.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- The outer reef only breaks well in a big west to south-west swell of 2 metres or more. It is a winter spot and mostly flat in summer.
- Crowd and vibe
- It is rarely crowded. The long paddle and rare conditions keep numbers low, and most surfers are experienced locals.
- Camping and vans
- Camping Paradis La Baie de Ploemeur is about 2 km north, and Camping Pen Palud at Lomener is about 4 km east. The tourist office lists motorhome areas near the cove. Nearest campsite about 2 km away.
- Facilities
- The cove has toilets, showers and drinking water, and bars nearby, but no lifeguards.
- Water quality
- Le Courégant was rated good every season from 2022 to 2025. But three of its eight 2026 samples were only average, the weakest record of the Ploemeur beaches.
