La Falaise is the northernmost of the Guidel-Plages beaches, a sandy stretch of roughly 800 m at the mouth of the Laïta river. It is a multi-peak beach break whose waves are usually small to medium and only moderately powerful, which is why the local schools and the club use it so much for lessons and training. When the sandbanks are in shape and a north-east wind holds the faces up, it can turn clean and hollow. It suits beginners and improvers, and offers playful waves to better surfers on the right day.

Local tips
Surf it from low to mid tide; the sandbanks lose their shape as the tide fills. September and October bring the cleanest, best-organised swells. Watch the outflow and currents at the estuary end, and in summer stay out of the marked bathing zones in front of the lifeguard post. When the swell gets too big for the open beaches, local advice is to head round to the more sheltered Larmor-Plage spots.
Getting there
Drive to Guidel-Plages (follow signs from the Lorient expressway rather than the slow summer coast road); the car park is close to the sand. A lifeguard post with toilets and showers runs in July and August.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- It faces south-west and picks up most Atlantic swells, so it is one of the most reliable stretches in the area. Wannasurf counts about 150 surfable days a year. The waves are usually small to medium, and spring and autumn are best.
- Crowd and vibe
- It is quiet on weekdays but crowded at weekends. In summer, surf schools and swimming zones take up a lot of space. The mood is relaxed and good for learners.
- Camping and vans
- Camping de Pen er Malo and Camping de la Plage at Fort-Bloqué are about 2 km south. Vans can stay up to 24 hours in the free La Falaise parking area by the Guidel-Plages shops, which has no services. Nearest campsite about 2 km away.
- Facilities
- In July and August there is a lifeguard post with toilets and showers. Shops, bars, restaurants and surf schools are close by.
- Water quality
- The La Falaise monitoring point was rated good every season from 2022 to 2025, and all fourteen 2026 samples were good. It sits next to the Laïta river mouth, so avoid surfing right after heavy rain.
