Los Caballos is a powerful reef break over sharp rock and sand below the cliffs at Cuchía, between Usgo and Suances. The main wave is a left. There is also a big, short right and a fast, dangerous left. It needs a swell of 1.5–2 m to start and holds well over 3 m. It often breaks with nobody out. Car break-ins have been a problem at the cliff-top parking.

Local tips

Come with a friend and leave someone with the car: visitors have reported punctured tyres and smashed windows at the cliff-top parking. The climb down is short but slippery. If it looks too heavy, Liencres and Somo are friendlier and more consistent.

Getting there

Drive to Cuchía, then follow a dirt road to the cliff top. A short, slippery path leads down to the water.

Travel notes

How often it works
Only works on a solid swell of about 1.5 m or more, so it is flat most of the year. When a big north-west swell arrives, it holds size that closes out the nearby beaches.
Crowd and vibe
Almost always empty, with just a few experienced surfers when it breaks. The worry is not the line-up but the cliff-top parking, where cars have had tyres punctured and windows smashed.
Camping and vans
Camping Hermanos García is in Cuchía village, about 200 m from Cuchía beach and roughly 1 km from the break. Nearest campsite about 1 km away.
Facilities
No facilities at the cliff; shops and cafés are in Cuchía and Suances, a few minutes' drive away.
Water quality
No official bathing-water data is published for this reef, and it is not on the 2026 Bandera Azul list. The Saja-Besaya estuary at Suances lies just to the west.
