La Concha is the 1.35 km city beach that curves around San Sebastián's bay, sheltered by Santa Clara island and the hills of Urgull and Igeldo. The bay blocks most swell, so it only breaks when a big storm sends enough sea inside, usually at mid to high tide. Then two short peaks appear at the ends of the beach: one near the town hall and one at the Pico del Loro rocks, which bodyboarders like. It is a backup for stormy days, not a regular spot.

Local tips

Check it only when the open beaches like Zurriola are maxed out. The waves are short, so a board that paddles well helps you get into them early. In summer the beach is full of swimmers, so surf away from the bathing zones.

Getting there

The beach lies in the city centre next to the old town, with city and regional buses along the promenade. Parking is in the city's car parks and metered streets.

Travel notes

Facilities
There are toilets, showers, bars and cafés, lifeguards from 10:00 to 20:00 in season, and several paid car parks nearby.
Water quality
The Basque Government's 2026 rating is excellent for all three zones. The provincial beach page shows no Blue Flag, and we found no official note on run-off after rain.
