Karramarro is a wild, rocky cove beside the N-634 between Zarautz and Getaria, with no beach and no facilities. It has a long, powerful left over flat rock that can hold two to three metres and offers clean walls for turns. It only starts working in a solid north-west swell, mostly in winter, and it is best at low tide. It is a local favourite, so it gets busy when it breaks.

Local tips

There is no sandy entry, so you have to jump in off the rocks between sets and plan how you will get out. The line-up is mostly locals and it fills up quickly, so be patient and respectful. It needs at least a medium-high level of surfing.

Getting there

It is reached only along the N-634 coast road, where parking spots are few and usually taken. Pull in only where it is safe and legal.

Travel notes

How often it works
Wannasurf says it only breaks sometimes. It holds bigger swells without closing out. Below about 2 m the rocks can show.
Crowd and vibe
Few surfers are out on weekdays, but it is crowded at weekends. It is busier than it used to be.
Camping and vans
The nearest campsites are above Zarautz, about 1.5 km east. Camping Talaimendi opens in summer only, and Gran Camping Zarautz is open all year. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
Water quality
Karramarro is not an official bathing point, so it has no water rating. The nearby Zarautz beach is excellent (Basque Government, 2026).
