Kerminihy is the wildest beach in Erdeven, about 2 km of sand and dunes running south-east from the mouth of the Étel river towards La Roche Sèche. It is an exposed beach break with shifting sandbanks that give lefts and rights, open to the south-west and fairly consistent outside summer, when it is mostly flat. Little is written about the surf here specifically, and most surfers in Erdeven head to Kerhilio further south. There are no lifeguards, part of the beach is naturist, and the estuary end has dangerous currents.

Local tips

Stay well away from the northern end by the Barre d'Étel, where swimming is banned because of the currents out of the ria; the peaks further south along the beach are safer. Surf around high tide. With nobody watching and few people in the water, never surf alone.

Getting there

Free car parks at Kerminihy (with toilets) and at the Barre d'Étel give access, followed by a fairly long walk through the dunes; a 2.10 m height barrier keeps campervans out and the car parks fill in summer.

Travel notes

How often it works
Surf-forecast rates it as quite consistent outside summer. The long, open beach catches most south-west swells, but it is often flat in summer.
Crowd and vibe
It is a quiet stretch with few surfers, even on good days. The beach is shared with walkers and naturists in summer, and everyone gets along.
Camping and vans
The nearest campsites are in Erdeven, the municipal Camping de Kerhillio and Camping Kerzerho, both about 4 km by road. A 2.10 m height barrier keeps campervans out of the beach car park. Nearest campsite about 4 km away.
Facilities
There are toilets at the Kerminihy car park, but no lifeguards, cafés or other facilities on the beach.
