Ereaga is an 800 m city beach in Getxo, tucked inside the Abra bay between the Puerto Viejo of Algorta and the Arriluze breakwater. Its shelter from north-west swell and wind makes it a backup when the open coast is too rough. It needs a powerful swell of at least two metres from the north or north-west to break. The best-known peak is Los Bloques at the south end by the breakwater, with long lefts and punchy rights that hold two to three metres.

Local tips

It is popular with bodyboarders and suits beginners on the small summer days. Autumn and winter swells need more experience. Being close to the port of Bilbao, the water quality can sometimes be poor, especially after rain.

Getting there

The promenade runs the length of the beach, with parking and full facilities. Neguri and Algorta metro stations are close, and the Ereaga lift connects the beach with Algorta.

Travel notes

Camping and vans
Camping Sopelana, on Calle Atxabiribil in Sopela, is open all year and has pitches for vans and motorhomes. It is about 6 km away by road. Nearest campsite about 6 km away.
Facilities
The beach offers assisted bathing for people with limited mobility.
Water quality
The Basque Government's 2026 rating is excellent for both zones. Las Arenas beach, just up the river, is rated insufficient, which is a fail. We could not confirm Blue Flag status or any official note on run-off after rain.
