Jefrys, also written Jefris, is a right that breaks off the Algorta shore on the inner side of the Bilbao estuary mouth, near the Puerto Viejo. It is a long, fast right with a good wall for turns, over rock and mixed bottom. Because the Abra bay is sheltered, it needs a big north to north-west swell to get in. When it does, the line-up fills quickly.

Local tips

It is busy on weekdays and very crowded at weekends when it breaks, so be patient. The rock bottom and the estuary current call for at least an intermediate to advanced level. Water quality near the harbour can be poor after rain.

Getting there

Follow the signs for the Puerto Viejo in Algorta and park in the large car park at the dead end. Algorta metro station is a short walk away.
