Gaztetape is a small beach of about 200 m on the west side of Getaria's San Antón headland, open to the sea and facing roughly north-north-west. It mixes sand with rock, and from mid to high tide the sand gives several peaks with lefts and rights of medium length. The best wave is a right that appears when there is more swell and can throw a hollow section. It is quieter than the busier beaches of Zarautz and Zumaia.

Local tips

Watch for rocks on the bottom and at both ends of the beach, especially at lower tides. The take-off can be soft, but waves tend to get better on the inside. It is a good place to check when nearby breaks are crowded.

Getting there

The beach is beside the N-634 at Getaria, with a public car park above it that charges in summer. A short path leads down to the sand.

The provincial beach page lists no campsite in Getaria. The nearest are above Zarautz, about 3.5 km east by road. Nearest campsite about 3.5 km away.
Facilities
There are toilets and showers, lifeguards from 10:00 to 21:00 in season, and a car park next to the beach that is paid in summer. Bars and restaurants are nearby in Getaria.
Water quality
The Basque Government's 2026 rating is excellent. The provincial beach page shows no Blue Flag, and we found no official note on run-off after rain.
