Roca Puta, also called Rokaputa, Izustarri or Orrua, breaks in the Orrua cove beside the N-634 between Getaria and Zumaia. It is a long, powerful right over limestone slabs and boulders, one of the best-known heavy waves in the Basque Country. It starts working at about a metre and a half and keeps going in swells above five metres. The wave hits hard on an open section, slows over deeper water, then reforms close to shore.

Local tips

It is for very experienced surfers only. Getting in and out over the rocks needs care because of sea urchins and waves hitting the ledges. On huge days a left also breaks off the point, but that one is only for big-wave chargers.

Getting there

Park in the lay-by on the bend of the N-634 coast road and paddle out from the rocks. The road edge is also the natural viewing spot.

Travel notes

How often it works
Wannasurf rates it regular. It is a reef with boulders, and the left is for experts only.
Crowd and vibe
Few surfers are out on weekdays, but it is crowded at weekends.
Water quality
Roca Puta is not an official bathing point, so it has no water rating. The nearby Zumaia beaches are excellent (Basque Government, 2026).
