Grand Crohot is the northernmost ocean beach of the Lège-Cap-Ferret peninsula, a long forest-backed beach that looks much like a Landes spot. Baïnes and sandbars form an inside bank and an outside bar that can hold a good two metres. On a good day it offers well-formed A-frame peaks, while on a bad day the waves can close out over hundreds of metres. It is easier to reach than the beaches further down the peninsula, so it draws surfers from the Bassin d'Arcachon and Bordeaux.

Local tips
Locals often find the best banks to the south near the old bunkers. The beach changes a lot with the tide, so watch it for a while before choosing a peak. Summer brings nice lineups and crowds; winter is often empty but less consistent. Kitesurfers use the area south of the blockhaus.
Getting there
