Pic Kipu, known locally as 'le Kip'', is a rock reef just along from Toulhars beach, inside the entrance to the Lorient roads. It needs a very large storm swell to break, and then shows two peaks: one a right that often closes out, the other a short, hollow left and a longer right, with rides that can run well past 100 m. On the biggest days the two peaks link up. A strong tidal current runs through the area, and the line-up is crowded with a protective local crew.

Local tips
You have to paddle constantly to hold position at the peak, and which way you drift depends on the state of the tide, so pick a mark on land and keep checking it. Moorings and buoys are in the water nearby. This is a locals' wave when it breaks: sit wide, be patient and respect the regulars.
Getting there
Drive into Larmor-Plage, go to Toulhars beach and look to the left; the reef is a short walk from where you park.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- It only breaks in a very big winter storm swell of about 2.5 to 3 metres. Most of the year it is flat.
- Crowd and vibe
- It gets crowded whenever it works, and wannasurf reports localism. A tight local crew holds the peak, so sit wide and wait your turn.
- Camping and vans
- A motorhome area with 22 pitches on Rue de Quéhello is about 1 km away. VVF Camping de la Fontaine is in the nearby Kerguélen park. Nearest campsite about 1 km away.
- Facilities
- There is nothing at the reef. Toulhars beach next door has accessible toilets, a free car park and summer lifeguards.
- Water quality
- There is no monitoring point at the reef, and wannasurf lists pollution as a hazard. Toulhars beach next door had a failed sample in 2026 and an illness report in February 2026, so avoid it after heavy rain.
