The Grande Plage runs along the ocean side of the Gâvres peninsula from Port Guerh towards Linès and on into Plouhinec. The Île de Groix sits in the main swell window, so it needs a decent swell and is less consistent than the open Ploemeur coast. When it works it throws short sandbank A-frames, softer at high tide and faster and steeper lower down, and the line-up is usually empty. The Linès end, further east, is the more consistent part of the beach.

Local tips
Aim for the rising tide between mid and high; at low tide the waves break far out and at the top of the tide a shorebreak can form. Watch for rocks offshore and for strong currents, and expect cold water in winter. In summer it rarely breaks at all.
Getting there
Drive from Plouhinec onto the Gâvres peninsula; there is free parking at Port Guerh (by the cemetery) and at Linès, a short walk from the sand. The road along the peninsula is shared with cyclists and walkers.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- It needs a decent winter swell to break, and it is mostly flat in summer. When a big south-west swell arrives, it works more often than the sheltered beaches nearby.
- Crowd and vibe
- Wannasurf lists it as empty on weekdays and at weekends. You will often surf it alone, so the mood is relaxed.
- Camping and vans
- Our campsite directory lists nothing on the Gâvres peninsula itself. The nearest listed site is the small municipal Camping de la Prairie in Port-Louis, across the harbour mouth, which is roughly 10 km away by road. Nearest campsite about 10 km away.
- Facilities
- The Grande Plage has a lifeguard post and drinking water from mid-June to mid-September, and the village bar is a short walk away.
- Water quality
- The Grande Plage monitoring point was rated good every season from 2022 to 2025. In 2026, two of its 14 samples were only average.
