The central stretch of the long Longeville bay, a straight sand beach backed by dunes and the pine and oak forest of Longeville. Shifting sandbars give lefts and rights that work at all tides and have some power when the swell is up, in the style of a smaller Landes beach break. It is the gentler neighbour of Bud Bud at its southern end and the base of several surf schools, so it suits beginners and intermediates. Busy in high summer, near empty in winter.

Local tips

Bank quality changes from year to year, so walk the beach and pick the best-shaped peak; heading south along the sand takes you to Bud Bud. April, May, June and September are the sweet spots for lessons and uncrowded small waves. Arrive early on good days, as the lineup has become busier over the years.

Getting there

From Longeville take the D105 and turn off at Les Conches; numbered paths through the forest lead to the beach, with the main car park at access 13 a few minutes' walk from the sand. Surf schools are based at accesses 12 and 13, and a campsite sits next to the beach.

Travel notes

How often it works
Surf-forecast calls it pretty consistent, and it can work at any time of year. The sandbanks change from year to year, so the quality varies.
