Melide is a small, 250 m cove on the south side of Cabo Home, at the tip of the Morrazo peninsula, facing the Cíes Islands. It lies in a Natura 2000 area of pine wood and dunes. It needs a big winter storm swell, which bends around the cape into a short, fast, steep and powerful left over shifting sand. The take-off is very shallow, and sections close out if the swell angle is wrong. Local bodyboarders know it for its tubes, and it is mostly a spot for experienced surfers.

Local tips

When it breaks, surfers crowd into a narrow take-off area, so respect right of way. There are no services, so bring everything you need.

Getting there

Dirt tracks lead west from Cangas towards Cabo Home, then a short walk.

Travel notes

How often it works
Very fickle. It needs a big winter storm whose swell bends around Cabo Home, and is flat the rest of the time.
Crowd and vibe
Usually just a few people, often local bodyboarders. When it breaks, everyone sits in one narrow take-off spot, so patience and respect matter.
