La Arena is a beach of about 960 m between Muskiz and Zierbena, one of the main surf beaches on the western Bizkaia coast. It is a consistent beach break with several peaks on sand and is easy to reach from Bilbao. The best-known wave is the Pobeña left, a long, quality wave at low tide, and there is also a longer-running wave called La Triangular. Waves hold up to about two metres and can be surfed at almost any tide.

Local tips
It gets very busy in holiday periods with schools and learners, so look for space away from the main peaks. An oil refinery stands next to the beach, and guides mention some pollution. The local surfers are relaxed with visitors who behave.
Getting there
Leave the A-8 just after the bridge with the refinery on the left, and follow the road to the beach. There is a large car park suitable for vans and motorhomes.
