Lagide is a reef on the north side of the Baleal isthmus. The main wave is a fast, fun left over flat rock and sand, and there is a softer right peak that is used for learning. When it is over about 2 m, it is a good wave for everyone, and it can get competitive.

Travel notes

How often it works
Surf-forecast calls it quite reliable all year, with north-north-west swell. It works when the south wind blows.
Crowd and vibe
Busy and sometimes tense when it is good. Few beginners surf it because it is a reef.
Camping and vans
PenichePraia and Urban Art Camping are both a few kilometres away. Portuguese road law bans motorhome overnight stays outside authorised places in protected areas, Natura 2000 sites and zones covered by the coastal plans, and limits other overnight stops to 48 hours per municipality. Nearest campsite about 2 km away.
Facilities
Lifeguards on Baleal Norte in season, a first-aid post, toilets, showers and beach bars.
Water quality
Baleal Norte was rated excellent in APA's latest annual classification and flies a Blue Flag in 2026.
