San Román, also called Area Grande, is a beach of sand and rock in O Vicedo, tucked between cliffs on the western side of the Viveiro estuary. It looks out to the Coelleira islet. It needs a proper winter swell from the north or north-west, so autumn and winter are its best seasons. Then several peaks give long, playful walls for a range of levels, with very few people out. The sandbanks change from season to season, and a stone cross on the right-hand headland remembers sailors lost in a shipwreck.
