Vilarrube is a long, sheltered beach inside the Cedeira estuary, with 1.5 km of golden sand and dunes. It only wakes up with a big swell. Then a long, fast and often hollow right forms near the river mouth, and other peaks break along the beach. That makes it the fallback when Pantín and A Frouxeira are maxed out.

Local tips

The right has a strong local crew, so visitors should keep a low profile. At low tide the wave breaks far out, so look closely before you paddle out.

Getting there

Off the C-646 coast road near Vilarrube, about a five-minute walk from parking.

Travel notes

How often it works
It sits deep in a sheltered bay, so normal swells don't reach it. It only wakes up in a big winter swell, when the open beaches are too big.
Crowd and vibe
When it works it gets crowded, because it is the only option around. The right has a strong, long-standing local crew. Wannasurf lists localism, so be patient and respectful.
Camping and vans
No campsite in the bay. The nearest is Camping Valdoviño, about 7 km away. The A Frouxeira Camper Park in Valdoviño takes autocaravanas. Nearest campsite about 7 km away.
Facilities
Parking, toilets, showers, summer lifeguards and a bus stop.
Water quality
The council monitors the water, but we found no rating and it is not on the 2026 Blue Flag list. Two rivers flow out here, and the council warns their mouths are off-limits for swimming because of strong currents.
