Carnota is Galicia's longest beach: around 7 km of open sand north of Muros, backed by dunes and the Boca do Río marsh. Shifting peaks break left and right along the whole length, so even on a good day there is room for everyone, and it is rarely crowded on weekdays. It picks up most swells, from under a metre to about 3 m, though often a little smaller than at more exposed spots. The waves are fun, and it is a good backup when other spots don't work. It tends to go flat in summer.

Local tips
Different parts of the bay suit different winds. Drive along it to find the cleanest section. Going by the records, March is one of its best months.

Along the C-550 coast road between Lira and Carnota. Several points have short walks to the sand.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- A long, open bay that catches most north-west and west swells, so it is fairly consistent from autumn to spring. Summer is mostly flat, and it is a handy backup when other spots aren't working.
- Crowd and vibe
- Rarely crowded: few surfers on weekdays, busier at weekends. With many peaks over 7 km of sand, it is easy to find space.
- Camping and vans
- There is no tent campsite in Carnota. The nearest are at Louro, about 8 km south (Camping San Francisco, Camping Ancoradoiro). The free municipal área de autocaravanas near Boca do Río, about 1.5 km away, allows overnight stays and has water, waste disposal and a picnic area. Nearest campsite about 8 km away.
- Facilities
- Boca do Río, in the middle of the bay, is the busiest and best-served part of the beach; elsewhere services are few.
- Water quality
- Not on the 2026 Bandera Azul list, and no official rating was found. The Vadebois river reaches the sea mid-beach at Boca do Río, so expect some run-off there after heavy rain.
