Praia do Vilar is a long, 1.2 km open sand beach south-east of the Corrubedo headland. It lies inside the Corrubedo Dunes and Carregal and Vixán Lagoons Natural Park, so dunes back it and nothing is built along it. Peaks break both ways and move with the sandbanks, giving long rides. On small and medium swells there are easy peaks for all levels: intermediates get the most from it, and small days suit beginners and longboarders. It needs some swell but stops being surfable beyond about 2 m, and the currents at low tide get strong.

Local tips

Autumn and spring, with their gentler swells, are the best seasons. On big days the currents are strong, especially at low tide. Surf schools teach here in summer.

Getting there

Go through the pine wood, which has parking and rest areas, then take the boardwalks over the dunes.

Travel notes

How often it works
Open to the west and north-west, so it has rideable waves for much of the year. It can't handle much size, though: above about 2 m it is too big, so it works best on the moderate swells of autumn and spring.
Crowd and vibe
Quiet to moderate outside July and August. In summer the surf schools move in, but the long beach gives everyone room.
Camping and vans
No campsite inside the natural park. The nearest we found is Camping Ría de Arosa 2, a rural site in Balteiro-Oleiros (Ribeira), open all year and about 8.5 km away. No área de autocaravanas is listed for Ribeira. Nearest campsite about 8.5 km away.
Facilities
Car park and picnic areas in the pine wood, a restaurant near the beach and surf schools in summer, but no beachfront buildings because it is a protected park.
Water quality
Described as having excellent water by Spain's official tourism site, but it is not on the 2026 Bandera Azul list (Ribeira's only Blue Flag is Coroso) and no official Náyade rating was found.
