Frexulfe is a protected natural beach of sand, rock and dunes east of Navia, a Natural Monument since 2002. Peaks break left and right across the bay on north to north-west swell. The waves are fast and good for turns, with tubes on good days, and it holds up to about 2.5 m. It is quiet and works best on a rising tide; lessons are available in summer.

Local tips

Low tide favours the east end, high tide the cliffs at the west end. Currents can be strong, so stay away from the rocks.

Getting there

It is signposted, with a large car park and basic services in summer. The walk to the sand takes about 15 minutes.

History

Frexulfe was declared a Natural Monument in 2002. It is part of the Natura 2000 network.

Travel notes

How often it works
Fairly consistent, because the long beach is very open to the sea. It needs some swell, and autumn and winter bring the best waves.
Crowd and vibe
Usually empty on weekdays and with only a few surfers at weekends. The beach is over 800 m long, so the peaks spread people out.
Camping and vans
No campsite next to the beach. The nearest we found is Camping Playa de Otur, about 6.5 km east. Nearest campsite about 6.5 km away.
Facilities
Big car park and basic services in summer only; a local surf school gives lessons and rents boards and wetsuits.
Water quality
Blue Flag beach on the 2026 list, though an older surfer report listed pollution as a hazard.
