La Nord is the stretch of beach at the north end of Lacanau-Océan, and its best-known wave is the right that breaks in front of the Lacanau Surf Club. When the banks line up it is a punchy, often hollow right that can run from the outside almost to the shore, with long walls and sections to hit on bigger days. It is probably the most famous wave in Lacanau and the home break of the club's surfers, so the line-up is competitive. Further north the beach opens up and the waves are less regular but calmer and less crowded.

Local tips
The right suits regular-footers going frontside. The club's young surfers are very keen on it, so wait your turn, don't drop in and expect the best waves to go to those who sit deepest. If the main peak is packed, walk north along the beach for emptier, softer peaks. The town's beaches all see almost the same swell and wind, so check the others before driving elsewhere.
Getting there
It lies at the north end of the Lacanau-Océan seafront, along the boulevard de la Plage; the simplest is to park near the Lacanau Surf Club and paddle out straight in front of it.
