La Sud is the beach just south of the town centre, beyond the south jetty. Its small, flat sandbanks are hard to read but can throw powerful, hollow waves that break close to the shore over shallow water, which makes it a favourite of bodyboarders. On smaller days the waves are gentler and surf schools use the beach, with a left that often forms beside the south jetty. How good it is depends on where the banks sit relative to the baïne rips, so it changes a lot from one season to the next.

Local tips
The take-off is close to the beach, so the paddle is short but you need to commit early: a late drop gets swallowed by the whitewater. Learners should keep away from the south jetty, where the current is strongest on the left. Evening sessions are popular, with low sun shining through the waves. Winter storms often rearrange the banks; summer banks are more settled.
Getting there
It lies at the south end of the Lacanau-Océan seafront, around the place de la Concorde, a short walk from the town centre, with surf clubs and schools just behind the beach.
