Super Sud is the wilder stretch of beach south of Lacanau-Océan towards Le Lion, backed by the highest dunes on this part of the coast. The main bank sits in front of the tallest dune, which feeds it with sand, and it often holds better shape than the banks in town, giving peaky lefts and rights. It is much quieter than the town beaches, though the area by the lifeguard post fills up in summer. Currents and baïnes are strong here, so it suits surfers who are already confident in the water.

Local tips

Look at the beach at low tide to find where the bank sits, then surf it as the tide falls through mid. Drive to the far end of the long car park and check the banks from the dune before choosing. Surf to the sides of the lifeguard post to avoid the summer crowd, and check the rips carefully before paddling out.

Getting there
