Moulin de la Rive, on the west side of the Locquirec peninsula, is the base of Locquirec's surf school. Its main wave is a right that peels off the rocky point on the western side of the beach, with beach-break peaks along the rest of the sand for beginners. The best of it comes on the rising tide around mid. Watch the steady current along the rocks and the beach.

Local tips

Surf the right from mid tide as the water rises; it fades towards the top of the tide. Expect to paddle steadily against the current along the beach, and keep clear of the rocks on the point. Lessons use the beach, so leave room for school groups.

Getting there

The beach lies beside the Route de Morlaix (D64) on the way into Locquirec, with roadside parking a few steps from the sand. Surfing Locquirec, the local surf school, is based here and runs from March to December.

History

Surfing Locquirec opened here in 2013 as the first surf school in Locquirec, and it has run adapted HandiSurf sessions for disabled surfers since 2018.

Travel notes

How often it works
Fairly reliable for the Bay of Morlaix in winter: surf-forecast finds clean waves about 40% of the time in January. It is open enough to catch both distant swell and local wind swell. Summers are usually flat.
Crowd and vibe
The tourism board calls the beach fairly quiet. But the local surf school is based here, so lessons fill the shallow inside area, especially in school holidays. Weekends bring Locquirec and Morlaix regulars, and the mood is easy-going if you leave room for classes.
Camping and vans
The municipal Camping du Fond de la Baie is about 2 km away in a straight line, on the far side of Locquirec. It is open all year and has a motorhome area. The Camping GCU Les Sables Blancs is about 1.5 km away but opens only from mid-June to late August. Nearest campsite about 1.5 km away.
Facilities
The beach has no lifeguards, just free parking and a picnic table. Surfing Locquirec runs a surf shop, lessons and board hire here from March to December, with hot showers and a café nearby.
Water quality
The weakest water record in Locquirec. It was rated Insufficient (poor) in 2023 after a bad test that August. No tests were published in 2024 or 2025, so current quality is unknown.
