Les Sables Blancs is a white-sand cove under a low cliff on the west side of the Locquirec peninsula, and it is quiet most days. It needs a large swell and mostly gives a short, dumping shorebreak, but with a big westerly or north-westerly swell and a southerly wind the early rising tide can give proper, sometimes hollow waves. La Plate, at the north end, is a shallow, very powerful low-tide right over reef, for experts only.

Local tips
Wait for a large swell; on average days other Locquirec spots are better. Keep away from the foot of the cliff, where rocks lie close to the surface. La Plate breaks over rock less than half a metre deep, needs a long paddle out from the beach, and is only for surfers who know reef waves well.
Getting there
From the D64 into Locquirec, follow the coast road to the Sables Blancs cove; parking is a few minutes' walk from the sand. The lanes are narrow with few places to pass, so drive slowly.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Unreliable. Most of the time the waves just dump on the sand close to shore. It only comes alive in winter on big west to north-westerly swells of about 2.5–3 m or more. Then the rising tide can produce hollow, tubing waves.
- Crowd and vibe
- Usually empty on weekdays, with only a handful of surfers at weekends. Wannasurf says the locals welcome newcomers and the mood is very mellow.
- Camping and vans
- The Camping GCU Les Sables Blancs is on rue des Sables Blancs, a few hundred metres from the cove. It opens only from mid-June to late August. The municipal Camping du Fond de la Baie is open all year, about 2 km away in a straight line, and has a motorhome area. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
- Facilities
- No toilets, showers or drinking water are listed, though there is a first-aid post in summer. Shops, cafés and the Locquirec surf school are a short drive away.
- Water quality
- Rated Excellent in the official 2025 bathing-water ranking, with a single medium test in September 2025.
