Trestraou is the main beach of Perros-Guirec, a wide, sheltered bay of fine sand facing north towards the Sept-Îles, lined with the casino and old villas. The islands and headlands block most swell, so it is usually small or flat and needs a big westerly swell to wrap in. Then the waves are short, powerful and hollow, and a bigger swell switches on a good outside right over the reef. Good days are rare and some surfers find it closes out, but the town has a big surf club, and the locals keep a close eye on the line-up.

Local tips
Check it only when a big westerly swell and a southerly wind line up; December and January are the best bets. The right-hand end of the beach usually has the better waves, leading round to Pors Nevez. The outside right needs a strong swell and is for experienced surfers. The line-up is crowded with locals and club members at weekends, so be patient.
Getting there
The beach is in Perros-Guirec off Boulevard Joseph le Bihan, with the casino, the landing stage for Sept-Îles boat trips and several car parks around it. There are showers, toilets and lifeguards in summer.
Travel notes
- How often it works
- Very fickle. The Sept-Îles islands and the headlands shelter the bay, so it only breaks in a big west to north-west swell. Sessions are rare and summer is flat. When a winter swell and a southerly wind line up, it can be clean on most December days.
- Crowd and vibe
- Weekdays are often empty. On weekends with waves, the water fills with locals and club surfers, and some say the crowd makes it dangerous. Reports on localism are mixed, so be patient and wait your turn.
- Camping and vans
- Camping du Domaine de Trestraou is about 50 m from the beach and open April to September, with motorhome pitches and a service point. Camping Le Village Perrosien is 1.4 km away. Motorhomes can use the 49-pitch Camping-Car Park aire at the Ranolien in Ploumanac'h, about 2 km west, or a small seven-place car park without services on Rue de Pors Nevez. Nearest campsite about 0.5 km away.
- Facilities
- Showers, toilets and summer lifeguards, with cafés and restaurants around the casino seafront. Perroz Surf School, in the middle of the beach, offers lessons and board hire.
- Water quality
- Ministry data, as republished online, rate Trestraou 'good' every year from 2022 to 2025. A few samples were average in July 2025 and August 2026, and no Blue Flag could be confirmed.
